We’re pleased to share our feature in The Boston Globe that ran today online. The article, “Upscale hotel expected to open in Downtown Crossing this fall,” is the first look inside our hotel, including a photo of one of our guest rooms overlooking Washington Street.

The article states, “It took some imagination to see the dilapidated Blake and Amory building along Washington Street as the future home of a new upscale hotel in downtown Boston.

But the company that bought the historic building two years ago for $23 million has been working to revive it ever since. Construction will continue through the summer and the owners expect the new 242-room Godfrey Hotel Boston to open on the corner of Washington and West streets in the fall.”

The article gives more details on what our hotel design will look like, including:

Oak paneling
Plenty of couches and coffee tables
Porcelain flooring
Large windows that open out onto the street.

And, as our General Manager Larry Casillo poignantly said, “What we’re trying to do is happily marry historical grandiose architecture with a modern inside.”

The Great Collaboration

Opening a hotel doesn’t happen overnight, especially when the building requires extensive construction and design to make it happen. Led by Oxford Hotels and Resorts, our hotel has a collaborative effort of skilled and experienced teams to make the opening of the next Godfrey Hotel a success.

The team includes:

Oxford Capital Group and Oxford Hotels and Resorts, LLC as the lead developer and hotel management.
Finegold Alexander Architects – Their firm specializes in restoration of historical buildings, which is perfect for our building to preserve some of its historical character that dates back to the early 1900s.
Tishman Construction Corp of MA – Headquartered in Boston, this team leads our construction of the two buildings becoming one hotel.
GETTYS – They will lead our interior design and design architecture. The global firm is a powerhouse in interior design with a perfect mixture of style, luxury and comfort for our hotel.
McNamara/Salva, Inc – They are our trusted partners in structural engineering.
Howard/Stein-Hudson Associates, Inc. – They are the civil engineers with a specialty in complex projects.

In addition, we are thrilled to collaborate and work with the great city of Boston and the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

A collaborative team to make this project a success.

A Caffeinated Idea Coming Soon

Coffee. Java. Cup of Joe. Latte. Iced. Hot. No matter how you take it or what you call it, coffee is an important part of the morning wakeup routine. We certainly “get” that and we’re thrilled to offer an excellent choice in our Boston property: George Howell Coffee.

We want our guests to only experience the best when staying with us, and their coffee experience is no different. As their mission statement says, “We buy the finest regional and single farm-sourced coffees for coffee lovers who share in our quest for the ultimate cup!”

And, as we said, we only want the best for our guests and it was rumored (thanks, Thrillist!) that George Howell makes the best iced latte. But, we’ll let you be the judge when we open this fall.

Rooted in History

With any great hotel restoration project, you need to take careful consideration into the history of the building and its surroundings. We’re doing just that in the development of our Boston property.

The Godfrey Boston will emerge from the historic Amory and Blake buildings in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood. It’s a unique area with unique buildings to go along with it. Of course, we want to preserve that. The transformation of both the Blake and Amory buildings is exciting – they were are the epicenter of Boston’s main shopping district originally. Many of the early tenants were fabric and garment trade outlets with the lower floors being different retail locations.

Sneak Peek into our Hotel Rooms

We know and understand that a luxurious and comfortable room is critical when traveling, whether it be for business or leisure. That’s why we took great attention and care to the interior design of our rooms.

As a sneak peek into the guest rooms, we will continue the sophisticated feel that is present in our Chicago property’s rooms. Our rooms will have a refined color palette of warm grays, accented by natural walnut. The color palette will be relaxing and welcoming. Custom carpeting, quality bedding and upholstered seating will evoke the refinement and comfort of a well-tailored suite.

What’s more – large windows will flood guest rooms with natural light. Plus rooms with original bay windows will provide an added, dramatic view to the bustling street scene below.
